What will Coaching DO in your Life?

When we get awareness we take different action and we make different decisions.

Awareness and Perspective are two of the most powerful gifts Coaching will give you because 95% of our life is driven by our subconscious programming and this RUNS DEEP.

Awareness, Perspective, Focus, Vision – these powerful coaching benefits put you in control, not the programming born out of your experiences in life that were not positive.

What is your programming?

Do you believe that you are not enough?

Do you believe you aren’t worthy enough?

Do you believe you are not qualified enough to do what you really want to do?

Do you believe you are not good enough, so people will not want to look at/use/buy your service?

How is this affecting how you show up in the action you need to take to realise your goals?

I realised recently that my 9 years of Muay Thai fighting were me fighting against everything I believed to be true about me and about my world.   I write a lot about this in my book, Life Through a Lens.

This year I made the decision to start fighting FOR.  I set the vision of what I truly want and what I believe is possible, away from all the false beliefs I had about myself coming back from the Play To Win Reality Show.  Suddenly fighting no longer seemed an appropriate way to be spending all my time.  I’d been hiding in the gym for fight camp after fight camp because of all the fears I had about doing what I really wanted to do.  My belief about myself had been that I’m fundamentally flawed and so my behaviour, or my habit was to hide, to doubt and to self-sabotage.  I’d make excuses for these behaviours, but in reality we can either have excuses or we can have results.  Our excuses come when we are working to prove the beliefs we have about ourselves.  Here’s an example.  Has anyone ever approached you to buy a product or start an opportunity online?  Did you feel sceptical that it was legitimate?  What did you do?  Did you go search on google?  When you were there, did you read the good reviews or keep scrolling until you found the bad ones?  If you believe something to be true you are going to keep searching until you find the answer that backs up your belief.  Your mind does exactly the same thing when it comes to taking action.  Based on your experiences and what they led you to believe about yourself and about your world, your brain finds the justification and excuses it needs to stop you being vulnerable or unsafe.  Your brain will go back into its ‘super computer’ of experiences and find the reasons for you not to show up and that is when all those thought processes start; when your monkey mind tells you that you shouldn’t do it, you’ll fail if you try, or it’s not worth your time or you can’t afford it.  You don’t show up in that action and because you don’t show up in that action you don’t get the results.

To find true freedom and flexibility to pursue your soul goal you have to change that programming and change those beliefs because when you have them and listen to them you are fighting against everything that has happened in your life, everything that has harmed you, everybody that has let you down, everything that has failed you, everything that has hurt you instead of fighting for the life and impact you truly want.

4 Ways to Train your Brain like a Muscle for Better Performance and Happiness

“We don’t see things as they are; we see them as we are.” —Anais Nin

Our brain is amazing.  I didn’t realise quite how much so until very recently as I recovered from anxiety.

It’s easy to dismiss the power of this 3 pound blob in our head; our “grey matter”, but it is the most complex (and perhaps the most powerful) and beautiful organ in our body. I know!  How can that ugly blob be beautiful?

Because it has the power to transform our life.  And we’re only using about 10% of it.

IF:

  • You feel your mind gets the better of you too often
  • You are looking to peak your performance as an athlete, business person, etc
  • You are ready to own your thoughts and master positive thinking that serves you
  • Or if you have depression or anxiety… Keep reading!

There are approximately 86 billion neurons that make up our brain, and if we laid those 86 billion neurons in one long line it would stretch approximately 534 miles (860 kilometers).  Our brain’s health and resilience impacts every aspect of our life.  It controls our thinking, memory, cognitive efficiency, physical health, emotional health, habits, urges, cravings, resilience and so much more.

How many of the issues in your life that you have right now could be attributed to those very things? Over-eating, relationship troubles, not coping, stress, being stuck in your comfort zone and unable to chase your dreams!

How would your life be better if you could make positive, long lasting changes?

Your brain could be the answer you’ve been seeking.

Although it accounts for less than 2% of our body weight, it consumes 20% of the body’s total energy.  This high energy consumption of our brain demonstrates the crucial role it not plays in keeping us alive, but alive and thriving.

Have you ever just flipped out , seemingly randomly?  Gone from 0 to 100, silence to rage?

It’s likely that your brain has responded on instinct to a “threat” and your evolutionary brain has made a decision based on partial information. You see, in reality the threat is just intense pressure to get something accomplished on time. But the reaction within your body mimics a deeper threat (heart-rate rising, breath rate increasing, etc).  In your primitive brain’s experience, your body’s reaction is the same as if you were responding to the surprise of walking round the corner to a lion in wait, it roars, so you roar louder and you are ready to fight for your life!

You know what this feels like.  Maybe you are under pressure at work with an important deadline that makes you feel anxious, irritated, or both. Somebody catches you off guard with a request or some information and you explode at them with rage. You completely overreact!

Or maybe, your a mum like me, who runs a business and is under pressure to juggle her work with her children, or you just have a massive load on your plate! You are overwhelmed and the kids are squabbling and nagging at you. You just explode and scream at them. You experience the harrowing physical symptoms of your over-reaction and afterwards you become physically tired and your emotional energy is drained. Maybe you even feel like suddenly taking a nap! Your eyes feel heavy like you’ve been sedated. You feel like shutting down and spacing out.

You just bounced from hyperarousal to hypoarousal.

This instinctive hyperarousal state (fight or flight) is as damaging as a hypoarousal state (freezing/immobilising/taking no action) because its in these states where we suffer things like anxiety, rage, depression, mind fog, etc and operate in unhealthy past patterns because our responses are driven instinctively by our reptilian brain that can’t create new information. When this part of our brain is activated, our neocortex – the most recently evolved part of the brain, which is responsible for conscious thought and language – is suppressed. This means we impulsively react from a place of habit, rather than step back, think about and plan a rational response.

However, we have so much power to change how our brain responds and so therefore how we respond and how we direct the actions we take in a positive way.  Basically, accurately assess a situation and appropriately respond in the present moment.  The problem is that we generally don’t know how to fight against our instinctive response.  This causes us jump to conclusions (I’m not good enough), make
inaccurate assumptions (they won’t like it, I’ll fail if I try), and respond from a defensive place. This can cause so many problems in our lives and cause us unnecessary suffering both at home and at work. It leaves our beautiful potentiality untapped and stops us living our best life and experiencing optimal wellness because this defensive state has harsh physical effects as well.

In this blog I am going to share the experiences that can prime your brain for the deeper work that will literally rewire it.

The theory at the foundation of these is “Neuroplasticity”. If you have heard this term, it’s the recent discovery that our brain can adapt and change based on our experiences and other things.  We can physically manipulate our brain for better responses and improve our brain health.

For me, this manipulation caused me to stop existing and start living; free of the anxiety that was ruining my life.

Neuroplasticity can be positively influenced by a number of things.

The first is our environment.

         1. Our environment promotes positive Neuroplasticity

If you are  somebody who sits at home all day in same environment, or in an office with the same white walls and no windows you will suffer with a kind of negative plasticity. Whereas, if you see new things, regularly challenge yourself, discover new places and be mindful of where you are in the moment – sit and notice, and focus fully on what you’re doing, you will promote neuroplasticity.

POSITIVE ACTION #1

Think about how you can get yourself out into new environments regularly, facilitate a tight bubble of total focus in your work or study, and challenge yourself regularly.

         2. Regular mental activities can improve cognitive abilities.

As few as 10 x 1 hour sessions of cognitive training over 5-6 weeks has the potential to reverse the same amount of age-related decline in the brain that has been observed in the same period.  If we work our mind like a muscle we can reverse age-related decline!

POSITIVE ACTION #2

Investigate my MyndDojo.

         3.  Working out the body can also slow down neuronal death and degeneration of our hippocampus (learning and memory centre).

Exercise, physical activity and good physical fitness can preserve brain.

POSITIVE ACTION #3

Review how much movement your body is doing.  Both nutrition and exercise are huge for our powerful grey matter.  For a personalised nutrition and exercise plan, click here!

Intermittent fasting is another brain positive activity because it promotes adaptive responses in our synapses.  Intermittent fasting is not something I do yet, as I’m just getting my head and habits around a hyper-personalised diet to my genes and biometric data, but I have heard good things and I am researching benefits.  I’ve heard our body compared to a room that you keep throwing stuff into without ever tidying up. If we continue to eat without  our body finding time to process it, it accumulates and can be bad for our metabolism, toxic load and our brain.

        4. Sleep is another critical consideration to brain health

We can actually develop a sleep debt if we don’t sleep enough that can have devastating health effects.  Chronic insomnia, even disrupted or lacking sleep cycles causes brain atrophy. While we are not sleeping, we are killing off brain cells instead of promoting Neurogenesis (developing new brain cells).

Positive manipulation of my brain’s functionality has been a big part of me healing from anxiety. It has also improved my performance in my sport and helped me build relationships and my business.

Anxiety, social anxiety, depression, low mood, anger etc damage the brain. It causes negative plasticity, so our focus and effort must be on remodeling the brain through our daily experiences; actually flexing our mind muscle on a daily basis in a positive way like we would a bicep in the gym.

By doing this, we can rewire our brain to our advantage.

My Remedy for Anxious Feelings

Now that I am not drowning in anxious feelings every day and have the space in my mind to approach anxiety more rationally, I am able to implement a really cool tool for making anxious feelings go away…

(If you are drowning in anxious feelings, i.e. feeling anxiety every day, this tool likely won’t work for you, but click here for something that will)

Often when we feel anxious there is something completely different that we are feeling underneath, we just haven’t given ourselves the time to feel that original emotion and process it.  We process emotions by experiencing them and choosing whether they require more action to resolve them.  However, how we live today is too fast paced for this sort of consideration!  Everybody is in a rush and busy.

So this emotion instead builds up and will be joined by other repressed emotions until all of a sudden you’re bubbling inside with this emotional boil up that makes you feel like you are going to throw it all up.  This frenetic emotion puts your body into sympathetic overdrive (fight or flight) – it’s on edge waiting to respond to whatever’s got you so on edge!  The blood rushes from your gut to your limbs and your digestion goes to shit, your mind can’t focus and your focus goes into lock down while your whole being commits to survive.  And at this point we often keep going because we still don’t stop and take action to feel the emotions we have repressed (or we numb them temporarily with alcohol, drugs or even sex) and this is where mild anxious feelings downspin into chronic anxiety disorder.

So here is a really simple action you can take.

Ask yourself, what am I really feeling?  And list the things out:

  • fear
  • out of control
  • love
  • overwhelm

The list can be as long or as short as you need.

Now interrogate the reasons for the feelings you have:

  • Too much work on
  • Some worry over something real
  • Uncertainty regarding a situation
  • Fear of loss, rejection, failure, success!

Now we are getting somewhere!  We can work with this.  We can take action.

  • We can spend some time thinking about what we are actually working towards and identify the priority actions to get us there fastest
  • We can figure out how to resolve our worry or make a decision whether it is worth our energy to worry at all (if it isn’t that thing can take a walk)
  • We can utilise gratitude so uncertainty (or any other negative emotion) is replaced
  • We can identify the beliefs driving the fear and whether they actually serve us.  We can always create new beliefs that work better for us.

Ultimately, personal development, goal setting, action planning and inner work will always be powerful in overcoming anxious feelings because they give us the control back.  We can’t get to where we want to go in the passenger seat of the car.  We have to take the steering wheel and drive!

Have you ever been a passenger in a car where the driver is scaring the life out of you?  That’s what is happening in your mind!  Negative thoughts and negative feelings buzzing around are like a white knuckle rollercoaster for your brain and it does what it knows best instinctively – it steers you away from pain – it alerts your nervous system that the shit is about to go down, so prepare to fight or run!  But when we take control of our thoughts and put action into place that restores order our nervous system can’t help but calm.

Breathing will support this process.  Contact me for a really simple anxiety breathing technique I learned that beats anxious feelings every time!  (Please just specify in the comments that it’s the breathing exercise you are seeking.)

Hope this helps!

A thought (and tip) on limited beliefs!

You are the average of the five people you spend most time with ~ Jim Rohn

This means our community can make or break our success!

We have 70,000 thoughts buzzing around our mind every day and unfortunately, most of them are negative.  So who we hang around, what we listen and what influences our thoughts becomes significant.

  • What is your mental nutrition?
  • Who is lifting you up?
  • Who is inspiring you?
  • Who is pushing you forwards?
  • Who is supporting you?

Because all of us have limiting beliefs and they don’t need any help holding us back!

In fact, if you aren’t experiencing success in a particular area of your life right now I can almost guarantee a limiting belief is at play.

Last year began the process of interrogating my past experiences to understand the ones that had created my limiting beliefs around money, parenting and success.  Because they were all presenting as a crippling lack of belief in myself and this was BEFORE the experience that completely shut me down in fear.

You see, most of our limiting beliefs are created when we are children.  When we are between 2 & 6 years old our brains are like little sponges; we absorb everything and create our beliefs from what we observe innocently in our world.

And the thing is, we cannot change the experiences that happened in the past, we can only ever control what we do going forwards.  We can continue to live trapped by our limiting beliefs and our fears or we can make a decision to grow.

On my Facebook Page I posted today that my Manifestation Challenge is running again to help you choose empowering thoughts over negative ones and help change your focus.

Just think of it like programming – like your brain is just a big computer and you can download the new stuff you want on it, but you have to invest in the programming.

Otherwise every thought, will ping a big emotional charge like fear, which keeps you stuck.

And you know, I was stuck, really stuck 18 months ago.  And then suddenly out of nowhere an opportunity presented itself to move forward.

It was a business opportunity actually.

I couldn’t afford it

I didn’t believe I had it in me to achieve in it

But I couldn’t handle the idea that if I didn’t take it I was going to stay stuck!  That was the only reason I said yes to it!  That and I was kind of inspired by the idea of changing the world…

But the big message is that decision is directly responsible for where I am today because of the community it connected me to and the motivation and inspiration I surrounded myself with that encouraged me to believe in myself.

I upped my average

So, limiting beliefs, your mental nutrition, your community and your new programming.  I really recommend, even if it isn’t my free manifestation challenge, find one new way this week to start reprogramming your thoughts this week.

A little mindset shift that will catapult your success!!!!

I am going to teach you a little perspective shift that has helped me MASSIVELY!

Do you get that “icky” feeling when it comes to spending money?

Do you say no to spending money on your own growth?

I’ll give you an example. I’m in a position where I need to put some investment into my business.  It is making me feel “icky” because I don’t know whether it is going to pay off.  I don’t know whether it is going to pay off because deep down I am still not behind myself 100%  I still carry limiting beliefs about my success, but they are massively reduced compared to this time 18 months ago because of the work I have done on myself.

You see, our internal condition, holds us back.

It affects us in numerous areas of our life where there is the opportunity to grow

  • The opportunity to start a new business
  • Investing in our wellness
  • Embracing a new opportunity.

I definitely felt exactly the same before I started my business!  However, at the same time we had other bills and I was finding the space on my credit card to pay them.

You know in the present day I don’t have to use a credit card because of my business.  It has pulled me out of the financial hole I was in and opened doors to so many opportunities.  My life is different because of it.  I am different because of it!  And only because I made the decision to invest in myself.

The thing that made me think about this was being in Specsavers today being told I need to wear glasses.  I was looking at the prices thinking “I could really do without this expense, but I need glasses and so, I’ll pay the money to get some.  The money was the same amount that I need to invest in my business and I didn’t get that same “icky feeling”.  What is the difference?

Our past experiences create baggage and garbage that blocks our future

And block our success.

If we don’t believe in ourselves to make something happen because of whatever reason we won’t invest cash.

If we don’t feel worthy of whatever that investment will bring us, we won’t invest the cash.

It might even be that we don’t believe in ourselves to be able to handle the kind of success that investment will create!  So we don’t invest the cash.

Think about it.  If I put my personal development course in front of you right now, or you were offered the chance to start your own business, or you were offered a way to get fit and healthy and whichever one of those things you chose cost a few hundred bucks.  What would stop you saying yes?

I am gonna guess… you are saying “I can’t afford it”.

OK, so now ask yourself, would you say yes if it was a water bill or a rates bill or school fees or a saving payment towards the annual family holiday?

Then honestly, ask yourself what is the difference.  It isn’t that you can’t afford it.  It is because you are prioritising other things over your own success.

And feeling “icky” is the body’s clever mechanism to make sure you continue doing that because the feeling is anchored in the memory of whatever caused your limiting belief in the first place.

So we come back to healing the internal condition for you to be able to grow.

And I promised to teach you the reframe that works for me and frees me from the limiting belief that prevents me GROWING!

It’s really simple.  I just think about the decision the future me would make.  I am in business, I want my business to be a success and so this is a need that needs to be satisfied.

I do the same thing when it comes to my personal development too now because I know that continuing to heal my internal condition is the only thing that will continue to free from the past experiences that held me back for too long.

Of course this requires having a strong vision of where you want to go.  What the future you looks like.

We work on vision in my free Manifestation Challenge.  That’s right, it’s absolutely free so you don’t have to spend anything to access it.  We start with setting your vision of your greatest life then I teach the 4 powerful keys you need to unlock your manifesting success.
